A plaque dedication ceremony was held at the 43rd Precinct Saturday to honor an officer remembered as a hero.

Police officers from across the city and officials including Commissioner James O'Neill and Mayor Bill de Blasio came together to celebrate the life of NYPD Sgt. Paul Tuozzolo, who was killed in the line of duty one year ago.

The 19-year veteran of the NYPD spent more than a decade at the precinct he was shot and killed on the job on Nov. 4, 2016.

The 41-year-old sergeant was responding to a report of a disturbance at the Van Nest Home of Manuel Rosales' estranged wife when Rosales shot Tuozzolo in the head, killing him, but not before Tuozzolo could warn his partner about the gun.

His partner was shot in the leg. Both officers were taken to Jacobi Medical Center, where Tuozzolo died.

The husband and father of two was remembered as a plaque in his honor was placed in his former precinct.

Tuozzolo's wife, Lisa, gave a tearful speech alongside the mayor and police commissioner.

Mayor Bill de Blasio said the people of the Bronx will never forget Sgt. Tuozzolo.

"He stood up for that family in danger. He stood up for everyone else just like he did for his own family," he said.
