Meeting addresses police relations, residents' rights

Residents had the opportunity Wednesday to share their concerns about interactions with police at a meeting organized by the Civilian Complaint Review Board at Bronx Community College.
A board spokesperson tells News 12 that the Bronx has some precincts with the highest amount of complaints in the city -- with the most in the 40th, 44th and 46th precincts.
Examples of complaints range from excessive force to abuse of authority or discourtesy and offensive language.
People attending the meeting also were able to learn about their rights and get complaint statistics in their neighborhoods.
According to statistics presented at the meeting, abuse of authority is the most common allegation against police, making up more than 50 percent of investigated allegations in the Bronx.
Offensive language is the least common at 3 percent.
