Fairfield police seek man they say stole cash register from business

Police in Fairfield need the public’s help tracking down a man who they say stole a cash register from a business.
It happened at the European Meat Market and Deli on Kings Highway.
According to police, the suspect smashed the front door, unlocked it from the inside, and then stole the cash register.
Police say he then stole a garbage can, put the cash register inside, and then started rolling it up the street.
Surveillance video from a nearby business captured him walking along Kings Highway.
Police say an officer in the area noticed him as he began to cross the street near Villa Avenue.
“It began with the officer looking out for the person's safety,” says Lt. Robert Kalamaras. “He was telling him to be careful when you cross the street because it's a busy intersection. Then when he started to inquire more about the garbage can, the suspect fled on him.”
Police tried to track down the suspect in a nearby cemetery but couldn't find him.
He's being described as white or Hispanic, around 6 feet tall, wearing a light colored jacket.
