A woman was killed after being struck by a hit-and-run driver on the New England Thruway Friday, police say.

The incident happened in the northbound lane of the New England Thruway near Exit 13 around 4:45 a.m.

The exit ramp to Connors Street in Eastchester was closed while police investigated.

The woman was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police say it is unclear whether the person driving the vehicle realized they hit the woman, but investigators say that car left the scene.

The identity of the woman has not been released.
