New York City's Department of Education is leading a charge to raise opioid abuse awareness.
The Department of Education joined forces with the Department of Health, the Bronx District Attorney and other community members for a town hall meeting Tuesday night on Lafayette Avenue.
NYPD Deputy Chief Raul Pintos says that among many techniques being put in place to stop opioid abuse is simply education of those as young as fifth-graders who are considered impressionable.
The NYPD is currently putting together its "Too Good For Drugs" program to educate students.
Experts were also on hand to share facts about the medicinal and criminal aspects of opioid use.
