Tips to avoid scams on Black Friday

While gearing up for the shopping frenzy of Black Friday, it’s worthwhile to consider a couple of basic tips to avoid scams.

Use legitimate and familiar websites and apps to research products, compare prices and find deals.

Save receipts to make returns easier and check with stores about return policies before buying.

Watch out for websites or social media sites that offer free or discounted gift cards, which may ask for your personal information or ask you to pay for a gift card that has no balance.

Lastly, the New York Attorney General recommends using debit or credit cards to protect yourself.
