NYC Parks Departments offers hikes to help shed unwanted Thanksgiving weight

THE BRONX -

While some worked off the turkey in the gym, others walked off their Thanksgiving meals Friday by getting closer to nature.

The New York City Parks Department offered guided hikes at numerous local parks throughout the city.

Participants hiked mile through parklands and picturesque woods.

Officials say it is a great way to shed unwanted pounds after Thanksgiving.

"We like to take people out to the park on Black Friday. I think there is no better way to send the holiday week than waking through the parks," says Kesnig Shane of the NYC Parks Department.

The Parks Department hosts hikes and several other events similar to their Black Friday event throughout the year.
