Teen in viral police video waives court appearance

The 16-year-old Bronx boy whose violent arrest for allegedly stealing a bicycle became a viral video in October did not appear in court as expected Monday.
Alfred Burns, who gained national attention after the video showed a brutal altercation with police officers, waived his right to appear.
Police are accusing him of stealing the bike from in front of a West 225th Street store. They say he resisted arrest and pushed one of the officers to the ground. When an officer got on top of him, Burns is accused of placing his hands around his neck.
Then video shows police striking him in the head repeatedly.
He faces charges of robbery and menacing.
The NYPD says it is conducting an internal review.
Burns is due back in court on Jan. 25.
