1 of 3 charged in fatal Thanksgiving carjacking faces judge

One of three people accused of killing a woman during a carjacking in Newark on Thanksgiving night will remain in custody following a court appearance Tuesday.
Supreme Allah Jr., 18, who is charged with murder, robbery, carjacking and possession of a handgun in the death of Shuri Henry, will remain in custody. His attorney did not argue with prosecutors Tuesday to release him.
Two of Allah’s family members cried out and waved goodbye to the teenager after he was ordered to remain in custody.
Following his court appearance, one of Allah’s family members spoke to reporters and described him as a lovable person who is passionate and wouldn’t hurt anyone.
As for the victim’s family, they remained silent.
Authorities said Henry, 40, was walking into her home on South 20th Street after having Thanksgiving dinner at her sister's house when she was approached and gunned down at her front step.
The suspects then drove off in Henry's Kia Sorrento. All three were apprehended after police spotted the vehicle the next day, officials said.
Allah, Antonio Torres, 20, and an unidentified 14-year-old have been charged in connection with the fatal carjacking.
Police said the 14-year-old faces the same charges as Allah. Torres is charged with eluding the police.
There was no immediate word on the status of the 14-year-old or Torres.
Allah's court appearance came just days after Henry’s family laid her to rest. The case will now proceed to a grand jury, according to Allah’s defense lawyer.
