New drug recovery center opens in Morris Heights

The Odyssey House Recovery Center in Morris Heights has officially opened.
Located at the Davidson Community Center, Odyssey House doesn't focus on treating addicts, but rather giving them the support they need on their path to sobriety.
That journey to sobriety starts with volunteer coaches who host group meetings Monday through Friday. The meetings are free and open to everyone. Some meetings include support groups, while others focus on getting addicts back on their feet with job training and help with housing. Some are more activity-based, including a computer lab and knitting class, to show those struggling with addiction that there are other ways to have fun instead of getting high.
According to Odyssey House, the Bronx has the second highest rate of overdose deaths in New York City. At Thursday's ribbon-cutting, many state leaders pledged their support of what they call a unique approach to fighting the addiction crisis.
New York state will continue to support the work that's being done at the Odyssey House. The state has pledged $1.75 million over the next five years to support 2,500 people who make use of the Davidson Community Center.
