Vigil marks 1 year since DJ Jinx Paul's death

NEW YORK -

Tuesday marked a year since DJ Jinx Paul, who worked for radio station La Mega 97.9, was killed in a Brooklyn hit-and-run.

A memorial lies on the Jamaica Avenue site where the 39-year-old disc jockey, whose real name was Jean Paul Guerrero, was killed. He was returning home from a performance at the time.

One of Guerrero's co-workers, DJ Carlito, organized a vigil for Tuesday night. It was attended by friends, family and fans.

Last month, 28-year-old Kevin Ozorio was arraigned in the case. He was charged with leaving the scene of an incident with death and tampering with evidence.

This past Saturday, a new law named after Guerrero went into effect. Under it, alerts will go out to the public within 24 hours of a hit-and-run involving a fatality or serious injury.
