Local gyms across the city are seeing an influx of new members looking to commit to a healthier 2018.
Fitness experts say the months of January and February are typically very busy due to the influx, but they say consistency starts to drop in March.
They say that many with resolutions to shed unwanted pounds start off strong, however, maintaining the motivation to work out, especially on cold winter days, is often the culprit of unmet goals.
Davina Ruiz, a dean at a Bronx middle school and a fitness enthusiast, says she is focused on staying positive when it comes to meeting her fitness goals.
“If I missed a day of cardio or I didn't go to the gym too much, I stood in the negative for three days and went into a slump,” she said. “This year I'm going to try to not be so negative and keep in the positive.”
Some experts suggest teaming up with a designated workout buddy or personal trainer to stay motivated.
