Church holds prayer service for 12 killed in Belmont fire

Our Lady of Mount Carmel hosted a prayer service Tuesday for the 12 people killed in a Belmont apartment complex fire last week.
Four of the victims were children.
The mayor has called it the worst fire tragedy in New York in at least 25 years.
The fire sparked after 3-year-old was playing with a stove. As the flames spread, his mother fled their apartment and left the door open, allowing flames to rush into other parts of the building.
The church is part of the same community where the fire broke out on Prospect Avenue. People who came to pray say they turned out not just for the people who lost their lives but also for the survivors who have been displaced due to the damage.
