VAN NEST -

At least 30 people have been displaced after a seven-alarm fire destroyed a residential building in the Bronx.

The fire started Tuesday inside the furniture store of 1547 Commonwealth Ave. and quickly spread to apartments above just after 5:30 a.m.

At least one firefighter was injured along with several adults and nine children, who all suffered minor injuries as a result of the fire, Fire Commissioner Daniel Nigro says.

Officials say 200 firefighters responded to the blaze that was put out four hours later.

Multiple hot spots, intense heat, freezing water and the concern for a building collapse all posed as challenges for firefighters.

Investigators are working to determine the cause of the fire.

However, they say everything inside of the building is frozen and it could take much longer to investigate.

The fire comes just days after 12 people were killed in a fire in the Claremont section of the Bronx.
