Residents urged to take precautions amid bitter cold temps

Bronx residents are dealing with a bitter cold weekend in the wake of the first snowstorm of the New Year. The city's 1,500 snowplows had trouble keeping streets clear Thursday and are continuing to try and clean up snow and ice.
Officials advise residents who do have to venture outside to bundle up, saying with wind chill the temperature feels like -11 degrees.
They also advise residents to take proper precautions before getting behind the wheel. Cold weather can impair a car's battery.
They also say to check the cars’ tire pressure and be sure to accelerate and decelerate slowly to avoid skids.
News 12 meteorologists say temperatures above freezing are expected for the upcoming week.
