Pelham Gardens tenants say leaky pipes caused flooding in homes

THE BRONX -

A group of tenants in Pelham Gardens says leaky pipes caused flooding in their homes.

Video shows water pouring out of several radiator pipes inside the Garcia family's fourth-floor apartment at the Pelham Parkway Houses. Katherine Garcia says the pipes were spewing hot water on Monday.

"It was horrible," she says. "We had to place everything from the bedrooms into the living room because it was the only place that was not leaking."

The New York City Housing Authority tenants say the extensive leak has affected multiple apartments on various floors at 2423 Williamsbridge Road. Tenants say they were told by housing workers that the overflow started on the sixth floor and claim it lasted two hours until maintenance workers could turn off the source of the problem.

NYCHA says it is looking into the issue.
