Morrisania woman claims landlord is ignoring deplorable conditions

MORRISANIA -

A Morrisania woman says her landlord is ignoring her calls for help about the deplorable living conditions inside of her apartment.

Kalifa Williams says rats, roaches and bed bugs have infested the apartment, putting her and her daughter in a dangerous situation. She says there are also broken pipes that went unfixed, causing flooding and water damage.

Williams and her daughter moved into the apartment three years ago through the city's rental assistance program. She calls the time since then a living nightmare.

"They said they inspected it," she says. "There's boiler rooms right here, so obviously there was no inspection...I just need to move."

Williams says she has asked for help, but her landlord continues to ignore her requests for permanent changes.

News 12 did not immediately hear back from the landlord for comment.
