The Bronx has seen an increase in fires in recent weeks that many officials say could have been prevented.
Volunteers from the Red Cross were at P.S. 152 in Soundview Sunday to teach Bronx residents about fire safety.
About 60 volunteers were out to help install fire alarms and teach important safety tips to residents who had made appointments to receive fire alarms.
Volunteers say after many fatal fires, including the Prospect Avenue fire that claimed the lives of 13 people, fire safety education is needed now more than ever to help New Yorkers stay safe.
The Red Cross says the program is completely free and available in all five boroughs.
