A Mott Haven native had a weekend full of glitz, glamour and gowns as she represented the Bronx in this year's Miss New York USA pageant.
Lyncee Stroman, 22, competed with more than 200 other young women from across the state in a three-day pageant that included interviews, stage performances and numerous costume changes.
This was Stroman's first pageant. She enlisted the assistance of a coach who helped her grace the stage in 5-inch heels.
When she isn't volunteering at the Parkchester Boys and Girls Club, Stroman is a mentor for at-risk youths.
"I would like to provide them with extracurricular activities to prevent them getting into trouble and going to the wrong path," she says.
The case manager also works with state parolees to help them re-enter into society.
"It's something I feel proud about," Stroman says.
Stroman did not place in the pageant, but she is looking forward to competing again in hopes of taking home the crown.
