Bridgeport police arrest man accused of robbing, assaulting senior

A man accused of robbing and brutally assaulting a senior citizen in Bridgeport has been arrested and charged with several counts of armed robbery in a string of holdups on the city's East End over the past few months, police say.
Thomas Asbury, 19, allegedly broke into an 83-year-old man's home with a gun to rob and beat him and steal $120.
"I'm relieved he's off the street," says Bridgeport Police Chief AJ Perez.
Police say they arrested Asbury at his apartment on Ogden Street early Wednesday morning.
"Anyone that would go into a home and assault an elderly person who has worked all their lives to have what they have is a disgrace," says Councilwoman Jeanette Herron, who cares for her own 83-year-old parent. "It's not cute to steal, rob, cheat, do a home invasion, beat up an elderly person. It's a crime."
Asbury also faces multiple drug charges, and police say he may be a suspect in additional robberies.
Police also seized a handgun that they say he used in all of the holdups.
