Police say a student fired a gun Thursday inside a classroom at Metropolitan High School. 

News 12 was told that nobody was hurt and that the student has been taken into police custody. 

The city's Department of Education released a statement following the incident saying, "Students and staff are safe and this troubling incident is being investigated. We are treating this with the utmost seriousness and are working with the NYPD to ensure swift follow-up action is taken."
