Sheepshead Bay residents push for relocation of booze cruises

Local leaders and residents of Sheepshead Bay are pushing for the relocation of booze cruises out of the neighborhood.
With boating season ramping up as warmer weather approaches, neighbors are seeking solutions to the problems that they say come with party boats, including trash and rowdy crowds.
Resident Robin Kovat tells News 12 that running along the water is unbearable during the summer months, calling the area “filthy” on the weekends.
"We had fights breaking out, we had trash all over the streets, loud noise, loud music,” said NYC Councilman Chaim Deutsch.
Deutsch says there is also an issue with a lack of restrooms on these boats, noting that he has seen people urinating on the streets as a result.

While some local leaders are proposing that these boats relocate, some captains fear that moving will harm their business prospects.
Assemblyman Steven Cymbrowitz, however, says that relocation is the only option and that “they don't belong in a residential area."
In the meantime, the city is promising to implement an 11 p.m. curfew for party boats this year. Local elected officials, meanwhile, say they're pressuring the mayor for a more permanent solution.
