A South Bronx middle school opened a museum created by its students Thursday.
The New District Eight Museum, a first of its kind from the city's Department of Education, is located inside the Paul Dunbar Middle School. Organizers say that the museum showcases a collection of handcrafted exhibits reflecting on different time periods in American history.
Organizers tell News 12 that it took six to seven weeks within the classroom to create the exhibits with the help from teachers and art educators. The museum focuses on the early Native Americans, the American Revolution and the Industrial Revolution. Each section features technology used during that time period.
The school is working on visiting hours for the community.
