GOP leaders launch campaign to oppose Murphy tax on ride-sharing

Republican lawmakers in New Jersey have launched a campaign to oppose a part of Gov. Phil Murphy’s budget proposal.
The governor wants to get rid of a sales tax exemption for ride-sharing services like Uber and Lyft. Murphy proposed adding the tax, along with a tax to businesses like Airbnb as part of his plan to raise revenue in the state.
State Sens. Dawn Addiego and Declan O’Scanlon are now leading the opposition against the proposal with a social media campaign called #DontTaxMyRide.
The senators are urging New Jersey residents to post their own #DontTaxMyRide videos on social media as a way of opposing Murphy’s plan.
