Supporters want more NYCHA dog regulations after playground attack

Posted: Updated:
THE BRONX -

Supporters of a grandmother who was mauled by a dog this week at an Adee Avenue playground rallied to demand NYCHA change its canine policy Thursday.

Althea Woodson's hand was still wrapped in bandages Thursday as her son explained she and her family love dogs -- just not untrained, violent ones.

City Councilman Andy King says he has proposed legislation to protect New Yorkers from dog attacks by limiting who can own dogs inside large apartment buildings.

Currently, NYCHA prohibits certain breeds considered violent and all dogs over 25 pounds.

Police say the dog's owner is in custody and faces charges. They also seized the animal.
