DOT worker fatally struck on Hutchinson River Parkway

A Department of Transportation worker was fatally struck Wednesday by a car on the Hutchinson River Parkway.
Police have identified the victim as George Staab, 57, an on-duty bridge electrician. Sources with the DOT confirmed Staab was taken to Jacobi Medical Center, where he later died.
The incident happened in the southbound lane of the Hutchinson River Parkway between exits 4 and 5 around 10:30 a.m.
Investigators say a 62-year-old man was behind the wheel of a Subaru when he lost control of the car, hit the man and crashed into an embankment.
Investigators from the DOT and police spent hours recovering evidence and talking to witnesses.
The cause of the crash is still under investigation.
