A graduation ceremony was held for over 300 probationary firefighters on Wednesday.
After 18 weeks of training, the class is ready to join the FDNY.
Five female firefighters were part of the class, bringing the number of female firefighters to the highest in department history.
Retired Capt. Marianne Monahan, part of the first class of 41 female firefighters, was proud of her son who graduated at the ceremony.
"I have always been proud to be his mom but to know I was his mentor, that just puts me over the moon,” she said. “It is one of the proudest moments of my life."
