The murder trial of a Baychester man accused of killing his pregnant daughter began Monday.
William Caruth allegedly strangled and bludgeoned his 39-year-old daughter Andrea Caruth, then hid her body in a crawl space in his house.
The younger Caruth was five months pregnant.
Prosecutors say they recovered a hammer used in the crime in the elder Caruth's car. Other evidence includes DNA samples taken from beneath the victim's fingernails.
Her boyfriend also testified that he last saw her on Jan. 3, 2016 -- three days before police found her body hidden in the wall behind her father's closet.
The defendant faces charges of murder and manslaughter and a maximum penalty of 25 years to life in prison if convicted.
