City Council member tours Canarsie NYCHA complex

CANARSIE -

City Council Member Inez Barron on Monday toured the Breukelen Houses in Canarsie to check out the state of the New York City Housing Authority apartments.

Tenants are conducting inspection walkthroughs to demonstrate what they call a lack of solution by the current mayor's administration to provide both affordable and senior housing in the city. More inspections will be done this month as part of a plan to call on Mayor Bill de Blasio to pass the City Council's NYCHA budget proposal.

Tenants are also showing elected officials what they say are persistently dangerous living conditions.

More tours will be held at NYCHA complexes through May 21. A rally will be held May 15 near City Hall to call on the mayor to allocate billions of dollars to NYCHA improvements.
