New Fairfield residents frustrated by storm recovery pace

Residents are frustrated in New Fairfield as the town continues to recover from violent storms that struck the region on Tuesday.
Cars had to dodge an obstacle course of trees and overhanging lines just to get around, there are whole transformers laying in the road, and only 2 percent of the town had power.
Earlier Friday, emergency management officials toured the damage by air because some parts of the town are still not accessible by road.
"Right along the lake -- pretty serious damage," said First Selectman Pat Del Monaco. "In the area of Bear Mountain Road, Short Woods Road, it's really very widespread throughout town."
Hundreds of people packed into New Fairfield High School to get a hot meal and take a warm shower.
The National Guard is in town, clearing neighborhood roads once Eversource Energy gives the OK.
Now that the main roads in and out of town have been cleared, New Fairfield's next priority is getting to neighborhoods where some people say they are trapped.
