Montefiore ‘treats’ teddy bears to teach children about hospital practices

Hundreds of stuffed animals were “treated” for injuries at Montefiore Hospital Saturday morning.
The event aimed to make children more comfortable and understand the process in the event that they ever end up in an emergency room.

"By them coming in now, when it's safe, when they're in control, they actually have the ability to develop a sense of familiarity with it,” said Dr. Nicole Hollingsworth, of Montefiore Hospital.

The children gave real nurses their stuffed animals’ names, birthdays and explained what brought them in. The stuffed animals were mock-triaged, and they got their lungs and heart checked, as well as X-rays, before a diagnosis was determined.
After they were given care, the stuffed animals were cleared and discharged.
