Wakefield school installs hundreds of solar panels

WAKEFIELD -

Mount Saint Michael Academy on Monday celebrated the installation of 324 solar panels on its gym roof as part of its efforts to go green.

The panels were installed by Silver Lining Solar.

School officials say they've already decreased electrical costs by 6 percent since the panels were actually installed last year. They say they waited until a clear spring day to celebrate.

The panels generate about 20 percent of the electricity used by the school.

Officials estimate the school will save about $500,000 over the next 25 years.
