Storm that ripped apart New Milford invites new community ties

A severe storm that tore apart New Milford last week has led residents to come together and rebuild.
"This is something I haven't seen before," Mayor Pete Bass says of the storm damage. "Another wow moment was watching our community come together."
"Volunteers helped volunteers," says Valerie Truesdell, the chief of the Community Emergency Response Team, which ran a refuge with water and power at Town Hall.
CERT managers say they're seeing a surge of new volunteers.
"I learned this week that New Milford, being such a large town, is really a small family," says Wendy del Monte, a CERT member.
Mayor Bass says most of the town's families have seen their power restored, but other utilities remain down for some residents.
