Protesters condemn police use of Taser on Nat'l Guardsman

Activists rallied Friday outside the NYPD's 46th Precinct building in support of a local National Guardsman who police struck with a stun gun during a traffic stop last month.
Calvin Moreland, who is from the Bronx and comes from a police family, says he pulled down a side street to make room for emergency vehicles in Morris Heights as he was driving home on May 15.
"When they were behind me, there was no place for me to go," the 27-year-old says. So he turned off the road to give them room. He was only a few hundred yards from his Montgomery Avenue house at the time.
He says a police cruiser followed him and pulled him over.
According to Moreland, the officer asked him why he hadn't yielded to the emergency vehicles, then ordered him out of the car.
He says he reached to unbuckle his seatbelt, and the officer zapped him with the stun gun and arrested him.
While he was reeling in pain, he says the officer asked if he wanted to get stunned again.
Now he's demanding the officers involved be taken off the streets.
The NYPD did not immediately respond to a News 12 request for comment.
