Sprinklers flood out Belmont apartments spared from fire

A fire tore through a Belmont apartment building earlier this week, disrupting the lives of tenants there -- and now a malfunctioning sprinkler system is causing more damage, they say.
Jose Rodriguez is one of the residents of 2418 Belmont Ave. He says his apartment is two floors beneath the one where flames burst out Monday.
The building's sprinkler system flooded out his apartment and others, he says, and then broke again on Wednesday and led to more damage.
The landlord says there's nothing left to do for tenants who didn't have rental insurance.
"I live on a $750 fixed income," Rodriguez says. "I'm a disabled vet. I can't afford another bill."
He's not the only one struggling to cope.
"I couldn't stay here," says April Orosco, another tenant. "There was nowhere for me to sleep. I have a daughter."
