Hundreds gathered at the New York Botanical Gardens Thursday morning to celebrate the expansion of Edible Academy – a program dedicated to getting children to develop healthy eating habits.
New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio was also in attendance.
The Academy, which is open to the public, teaches the importance of nutrition through vegetable gardening.
Upgrades will include a greenhouse, solar pavilion and a classroom building with a demonstration kitchen.
The new features will allow for year-round operation, unlike in the past.
The grand opening will be held June 16 and 17.
