News 12 Digital is highlighting the most-viewed stories of 2018 as part of our 'News 12's Most-Viewed' series. This story on a fatal shooting in Castle Hill was first published on June 21. Original story below.
A suspect walked up to two men and a woman standing outside a stationary store on Castle Hill Avenue and fatally shot them Thursday, police say.
It happened just after 10 a.m. Police rushed to the scene, closing off nearby Randall and Cincinnatus avenues.
Police identified the victims as Mustafa Tarver, 33, Christopher Alleyne, also 33, and Arileida Jiminez, 45.
At a news conference Thursday afternoon, police said Tarver and Alleyne were shot in the head; Jiminez was shot in the torso. They were taken to NYC Health + Hospitals/Jacobi and pronounced dead on arrival.
Police describe the suspect as a heavyset man who was wearing dark clothing. They say he ran off toward Randall Avenue.
Police say they plan on releasing surveillance video showing the suspect to the public sometime soon.
Anyone with information can call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-577-TIPS.
Castle Hill was one of the neighborhoods selected for the NYPD "All Out" initiative, in which police presence was increased in crime hotspot areas throughout the city. NYPD and community leaders say the program has led to lower rates of violence in the past year. But residents say Thursday's shooting doesn't make them feel any safer.
