A smell coming from one area in Soundview is putting some residents in a foul mood.

Neighbors say a garbage compactor belonging to Western Beef on Bruckner Boulevard is creating a stench throughout the neighborhood.

Carlos Roman, who lives up the block, says it leaks when it compresses waste.

“You can smell the oil and the grease that leaks out of the container because they throw meats and other things that are rotten from the supermarket in there,” he said.

Roman also says he contacted the Department of Health and spoke with the managers at the supermarket.

News 12 also spoke with the managers at Western Beef, and they say there will be a fence around the compactor by next week. It will also be sealed to prevent leaks.
