While children are outside enjoying their summer vacation, doctors are underlining the importance to also stay safe.
NYC Health + Hospitals Kings County says there is typically an increase in trauma-related injuries during the summertime.
Dr. Anusha Fernando says the most important precautions are to keep kids hydrated, wearing sunscreen and wearing helmets if they're riding bikes,.
Arianah Cooper, 4, fell from her scooter Friday and landed in the hospital. But thanks to the city's Vision Zero program, she and her brother have brand-new helmets to prevent future injuries.
Cooper said she was scared to ride her scooter again after the fall, but with her new helmet, she's excited to get riding again.
