DOT plans replacement for Pelham Bridge

Some changes are on the way for commuters who use the Pelham Bridge.
The Department of Transportation says they plan to replace the bridge entirely, with hopes of beginning construction in 2022, and completing it three years later.
The Shore Road bridge is over 100 years old.
The DOT says the new bridge will improve structural and operational reliability, minimize adverse environmental effects, reduce the number of movable span openings and improve pedestrians and cycling facilities.
The Pelham Bridge will remain open while the new bridge is built right next to it.
