Throgs Neck merchants push for BID

Many Throgs Neck businesses may soon be part of a business improvement district after merchants in the community expressed interest.
The Throgs Neck Merchant's Association is behind the push for a BID, presenting the case to Community Board 10 back in June. The board voted overwhelmingly in favor of the BID.
The BID is now in its outreach phase which includes seeking approval from the borough board, the city Planning Commission, City Council and the mayor and state comptroller.
Business owners have high hopes and big plans, including more parking, security and lighting for streets.
There are 75 BIDs in New York City. The city's Department of Small Business Services say BIDs create vibrant, clean and safe districts.
