Police have arrested the man they say smashed a subway train passenger in the head with a metal pipe over the weekend.

The unidentified 35-year-old was arrested late Sunday night at his home based on an anonymous tip that came in through Crime Stoppers.

A video shows a man in a turquoise shirt and backward baseball cap shouting at another passenger. When that passenger stands up, the man swings some sort of metal pipe at him.

The video ends there, but police tell News 12 the suspect did strike the victim multiple times in the face, fracturing his skull and breaking his eye socket, before exiting the train.

The incident happened on a Southbound 2 train in Manhattan on Saturday around 11:15 p.m.

Police say the suspect was panhandling on the train before the assault.

The victim, who is from the Bronx, is expected to be OK.

Police say the charges against the suspect are still pending.
