There are concerns about rip currents today and tomorrow for anyone planning to head to the beach as Hurricane Chris churns off the East Coast.

Swimmers should expect to see red and yellow flags posted along New Jersey beaches, including Belmar.

Lifeguards say they are ready for the changing conditions as waves could get as high as six feet.

The surf will also be rough.

It has already been a busy few days with many rescues up and down the coast.

Warm air and warm ocean temperatures certainly make it inviting to dive in this time of year.

Hurricane Chris is still a Category 2 hurricane, with maximum-sustained winds of 105 mph with gusts to 125 mph.

Chris is now moving to the northeast at 10 mph away from the East Coast and will accelerate through tonight and tomorrow.

But the storm remains in an environment conducive for strengthening, which is why rip currents are such a concern right now.

The good news is Chris will start to move over colder water later tomorrow and tomorrow night and as a result will start to weaken tomorrow night just in time for the weekend.
