Torrential rain causes slick commute in the Bronx

THE BRONX -

The torrential rainfall Tuesday led to slick roads and a treacherous commute in the Bronx.

Typically busy Gun Hill Road remained packed despite the wild weather that brought thunder, lightning, heavy rain and strong winds. Some drivers were seen hydroplaning after the heavier rain began to fall. But most appeared to be taking it easy.

News 12 cameras caught quite a few people who seemed prepared for the weather, clutching to umbrellas to shield them from the steady downpour. Others opted to brave the elements without a jacket or umbrella.

Cracks of thunder could be heard just before 2:30 p.m. Rain and oppressively dark clouds were present for hours after.

The rain did take away some humidity, which some say caused the borough to feel like a tropical rainforest before the storm.
