Vision Zero project to target East 179th St. and Southern Blvd.

Posted: Updated:
EAST TREMONT -

A new Vision Zero project aims to make traffic in the area of East 179th Street and Southern Boulevard safer for drivers and pedestrians when it gets underway this month.

The result will be shorter pedestrian crossings, organized traffic flow and expanded pedestrian space.

Another tenet of Vision Zero is to reduce speeding, which commuters say is a problem in the area.

At least two people between 2012 and 2016 were seriously injured while crossing the intersection.
