Drivers angered at rising parking meter rates in the city

THE BRONX -

For the first time in five years, parking meter rates are rising in the borough.

Increasing costs for parking on the street will begin on Dec. 3 in the Bronx.

Manhattan will see the biggest fare hikes for certain area. Core areas in outer-boroughs will see an increase from $1 to $2. Other neighborhood corridors will go up from $1 to $1.50. The remaining areas will need another quarter to pay for parking.

Commuters in the area say they are frustrated with the new rules and are seeking other options.

"You're driving around for two hours trying to get parking," says Tesfa Ferris of the Bronx. "When you finally do get parking, you gotta get up in the morning at 8 or 10:30 to move the car. I'm gonna pay for a parking lot. It's better than that. The tickets are adding up to about the same thing.”

Payment options will stay the same. Coins, credit and debit cards and the ParkNYC app are all viable ways to pay for parking.
