Man faces attempted murder charges after police struggle

A Bridgeport man is facing attempted murder charges after officials say his gun went off during a struggle with police.
Officers responded to a report of suspicious activity around 5 a.m. Thursday on Rosedale Street.
Moments later, police say they spotted 40-year-old Rondell Wells at Park and Benham avenues. They say the suspect pulled out a handgun, and an officer was able to grab the weapon as it went off.
Nobody was struck by the bullet.
Although unharmed, Police Chief AJ Perez says Wells was taken to the hospital to be evaluated.
Wells faces charges of assault and attempted murder on two police officers. He is due in court Friday morning.
Perez says he commends his officers for avoiding a potentially tragic event.
