Stamford church: Contractor took deposit, did no work

St. John's Episcopal Church in Stamford says it was scammed by a contractor and is still trying the recoup the loss a year later.
The 275-year-old church says it had a leaky roof and called Trumbull Restoration in Plainville to fix it last August.
Church members say Marcus McClellan quoted them almost $30,000 and took a $7,400 deposit but never did the work.
They say they sent him certified letters, went to the better business bureau, and even sent a marshal with a summons for him to appear in court, but they've heard nothing.
Another company fixed the church's roof last fall.
News 12 did not immediately hear back from McClellan for comment. St. John's says he's done the same thing to other churches, including one in Milford.
