Flight instructor, student make emergency landing at Danbury Airport

A flight instructor and his student are safe after they made an emergency landing Sunday evening at Danbury Airport.
Fire, police, medical and airport crews responded to the scene.
Police say the wheel assembly on the four-seat Piper Warrior's left-side landing gear came loose. They say the instructor took control and was able to land the plane on the runway safely with no injuries.
Airport officials say the instructor made several passes to allow emergency crews to get in place and was experienced to know what to do.
"He turned the engine off so as not to create any kind of issues with the propeller striking the ground and he nailed it," says Mike Safranek, of Danbury Airport.
The airport has not released the names of the two people on board, but says it was the teamwork of everyone involved that made the landing successful.
The Federal Aviation Administration is investigating the incident.
