Pet owners brought their pooches to the Woodlawn Dog Run for National Dog Day.
Animal advocate Colleen Paige founded National Dog Day in 2004 to celebrate all canines, according to the holiday's website. It was adopted into New York State legislation in 2013.
The mission of the day is to bring awareness to the need for dog rescue through adoption services.
Dogs of all breeds spent their day exercising at the dog run's obstacle course and their owner's say their pups are more than just a pet.
"They're family," says Ishmael Torres. "We lost a dog a couple of months ago, went through a grieving process and got this one. She was a Christmas gift, a Christmas pup."
Chipotle is also hosting a fundraiser at every New York City location to benefit Rescue City and Rescue Dogs Rock NYC. Customers have to mention the fundraiser at the register and one-third of their total bill will go directly to the rescues to support the care of at-risk dogs.
